*Late availability! An opportunity to learn how to make beautiful bespoke artists boxes. Ideal to store or present papers and books or for the perfect gift
|
This technically focussed course will provide you with the ability and confidence to construct 3 exquisite, bespoke boxes from board, book cloth and decorative papers. The boxes get more difficult as the week progresses, beginning with the most simple.
Together we will master the techniques to measure, cut, construct, sand and cloth cover a slip case. On day one you will make a hardback sketchbook, followed by a slip case to house it, which will fit inside a magnet clasp portfolio box made on day three, which will sit neatly inside a clamshell box by the end of the week. Think Baboushka doll but with boxes. These boxes are unique and beautiful objects that will leave you eager to make more and more.
Please be aware that the nature of box making requires a degree of accuracy and precision and is technically, rather than creatively focussed. Measurements will be in mm's and students are required to be proficient in using craft knives and scalpels.
All summer school courses run from 9.30am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. All materials and equipment are supplied, with a simple lunch provided daily. It is important to wear old clothes as art is a messy business. Be prepared and dress for the Highland weather, expect sun and rain, four seasons have been experienced in one day! Outdoor, waterproof clothing is essential for outdoor courses.
